Mission Statement
Optimum focuses on linking academic discoveries with commercial applications in order to
provide the maximum benefits to cancer research and patients.
Our Business
Optimum opened its doors to its first two employees in late 2003. Since then, Optimum has
grown to employ several Ph.D.-level scientists and an extremely strong and experienced
support staff. Optimum has received five Phase I and two Phase II SBIR grants, as well as
one R01 grant and a subcontract on an additional R01 grant from the National Institutes of
Health.
Who We Are
Scientists
•Jessie Au, Pharm.D., Ph.D., Distinguished Scientist, is Optimum's founder, Chief Scientific
Officer and Acting CEO. She is a Distinguished University Professor at The Ohio State
University and works at Optimum on a part-time basis.
•Ze Lu, Ph.D., Senior Research Scientist, has been with Optimum since its inception and
acts as Principal Investigator on the tumor-penetrating microparticles (TPM) and paclitaxel
nanoparticles (PNP) projects.
•Trini Wientjes, J.D., Director of Operations, has been at Optimum since 2003. She acts as
in-house counsel, coordinates grants administration and clinical trial programs, and heads
Optimum's involvement in the NIH's Commercialization Assistance Program for Small
Businesses.
Technicians
•Jing Gu, B.S., assists Dr. Wang with cell culture and histoculture work.
•Daniel Lin, B.S., is pursuing his Pharm.D. degree and assists Dr. Wang with histoculture
work.
•Minjian Cui is an undergraduate student at The Ohio State University who is working at
Optimum on the siRNA project.
